April 27 – Review by Stefan – WALLOP – ALPS ON FIRE (Pure Steel Records / Soulfood)

Originally from Offenbach, Hesse Germany, Wallop was founded in 1983 and one year later a demo was released, followed by a full-length album “Metallic Alps” (1985). To my greatest regret, I have to say that this was the only real tangible material the band released. A second demo came to light in 1986 but the curtain fell over the continued existence of Wallop. Still a strange situation for a band that did pretty well for my part, although, I know more bands who suffered the same fate in the 80’s.

Can you imagine a formation resurfacing after an musical interruption of 35 years ? The story of Wallop got a resurgence when drummer Stefan Arnold left his former band Grave Digger after a stay of 23 years. Along with his longtime soulmates, plans were made to release a 4-track demo called “Alps On Fire”, they also performed their very successful reunion. So the story of Wallop gets a sequel and as an old school heavy metal fan I can be very satisfied with that. READ MORE…
